6. Are you aware of how USC can support Korean students in achieving successful academic outcomes in the OT program? USC offers a variety of supports for our international students. For example, USC has an International Academy to help international students prepare to study in the United States. This includes English preparation as well as courses to prepare you to take graduate level courses in the U.S.. Students who graduate from the USC International Academy’s Pre-Master’s Program are guaranteed admission to the USC Chan Post-Professional Master’s program. USC also has an Office of International Services (OIS) to assist with VISAs, Passport Verification (PPV), Living in Los Angeles, and more. The Living in LA page of their website includes information on housing, transportation, safety, and finances. Here at the Chan Division, our excellent Global Initiatives team has a multitude of resources for international students to help them adapt to life in the United States and the American pedagogical approach, including:
7. Do you think that coming from a WFOT-accredited institution is an important factor for students applying to the USC OT program? At USC Chan, we practice holistic admissions and do not rely on singular metrics or factors of an application in our admissions decisions. However, as I mentioned previously, students who have not graduated from an WFOT approved program typically face additional challenges post-graduation if they plan on pursuing clinical practice here in the U.S. 8. What advice would you give to Korean students preparing for the USC OT program? I understand that for many students, it may be daunting to consider pursuing their graduate education here at USC or in the U.S. in general. As an international student alumnus, I am proud to say that USC and the Chan Division are aware of this and we do our best to support our international students and applicants to the best of our ability. I would highly encourage them to reach out to me with any questions or concerns they may have I am always happy to connect with students and am here to help. 9. What aspects are emphasized during the admission process for the USC OT program? At USC Chan, we practice holistic admissions holistic review evaluates applicants based on cognitive and non-cognitive traits, which ensures that more than one factor contributes to admission decisions. 10. What kind of achievements have graduates of the USC OT program made in their professional careers? USC admits one of the largest classes of OT students, providing more opportunity for diversity and increasing the size of the professional network for our alumni. Once you graduate, you will be joining one of the largest OT networks in the world, with over 3000 graduates across almost all 50 states and multiple countries. Our alumni include 5 AOTA presidents, 6 OTAC Presidents, and 15 Eleanor Clarke Slagle Awardees. |
